Zmaj Museum
In the very heart of Sremska Kamenica, on the main road, there’s a memorial collection “Jovan Jovanović Zmaj” (Zmaj museum). It’s currently a part of the Museum of Novi Sad, and Zmaj’s house witnesses the life and work of one of Serbia’s greatest romantics. The museum was founded by the “Zmaj” community, which began work in 1904.
Mr. Jovan Jovanović Zmaj spent the last years of his life in this house, which was adapted and opened for visitors in 1933. In the same year, diagonally across the house, a monument titled “From Children to Jova Zmaj” was erected, the work of the sculptor Stevan Stojanović. The monument features both the portaiture and power of J.J.Zmaj’s personality,a s well as the delicate world he built through children’s poetry. Twelve years after WW2 the museum was rebuilt and opened again.
The concept of a permanent exhibition is presented through categories: Zmaj’s family life, work on children’s literature, his posthumous work and more.
The museum is open from 09:00 - 16:00 from Monday to Friday and 09:00-14:00 on Saturday. Group visits must be announced a few days before arrival.
